Music and dance

About me

I’m a dance caller, piano and mandolin player from Glasgow. My deep interest in traditional music and dance has taken me all across the UK, and to Canada and the USA.

As a piano and mandolin player in dance bands and a ceilidh and contra dance caller, I regularly play at festivals and events all over the UK.

I love creating fun and welcoming events where people can come together and enjoy these amazing traditions. I’m a director of Acadia Festival of Traditional Music and Dance in Maine USA, and a co-founder of the Brighton Ceilidh Collective’s Rant ceilidh series in Brighton UK.

How I work

I believe everyone can enjoy traditional music and dance. I create warm and inclusive events where anyone can feel confident to try new things. Dancing is a fun but powerful way to make connections and build communities.

I love learning about traditions and teaching people about different tunes and dances. But it’s also fun to make mistakes and find your own ways of doing things.

As a musician, my goal is always to play with an irrestistable groove that makes people want to get up and dance. Music and dance together is how we make these old traditions come alive.

Gender-free dance calling

I am committed to making spaces where everyone feels they can dance, and they can dance with anyone they want. This includes people of all ages, abilities, gender identities and gender expressions.

I use positional calling which means I don’t use any gendered language to describe the dance steps.

It was one of the best ceilidhs we’ve been to, particularly because of your calling. It was really refreshing to have gender neutral calling seem so effortless.
